If the relay is unidirectional the battery tender has to be hooked to the Primary battery for this to happen. Now, how that relates to the battery tender is that the battery tender will activate the relay and maintain the charge on both batteries. With the bidirectional type, it matters not which of the 2 big terminals is hooked to which of the 2 batteries.

There are 2 optional things that I have thrown in there. Here is a wiring diagram specific to the Rhino that I put together. If the primary battery or both batteries are severely depleted, then the relay will stay disconnected until the primary battery is not heavily drawing down the charging voltage supply. The primary battery can be charging from a slightly depleted condition and the voltage will be high enough to charge the secondary battery at the same time if it is also slightly depleted.
